Hi
That's fine - just go ahead and ask! Your questions and answers, if done through this forum will then be available to help others!
Many people are a bit too shy to post publicly, so they browse and find the answers to questions for themselves which people just like yourself have asked! So fire away!

right here we go bare with me
ive had kerataconus for around a year now,had to keep going the hospital for check ups ect and try new contact lenses ive got it in both eyes it's worse in the right eye than the left, anyway the doctor give me this hard contact lens which fills my whole eye but i can't seem to get used to it i hate it and wont wera it in both eyes just the right makes me feel horrible,i can see clear as day through it but i just dotn like it in it strains after a few hours and the light makes it strain more.....so heres the questions
1.will a graft sort this so that i can at least where glasses? if i could wear glasses that would be a great help(although id only wear them to work and the football)
2.when the graft has healed even if it takes motnhs maybe eyars when it's healed if i recieve a blow to the eye at any stage in my life could this cause damage?
im 21 and enjoy all the usual stuff football going out with mates women ect haha i just hate the eye problems not bein able to see some one who is standing right infront of me ive ignored so many people not knowin it was them
i just want decentish eyes ive always been short sighted but thsi kerataconus as been a real pain if a graft will make me better im willin to try it.
cheers

Hey again!
Unfortunately it can take a long time to be able to see well with lenses so I would say to keep trying as very few people find one straight away. With KC we need a lot of fittings and changes to the prescription.
Is your lens hurting when wearing it, or is it more the light being so bright now? Sadly for us to get good vision we can be overpowered with colours and light!
On a graft, it takes over a year at least to get good results and even then it will take time to heal properly. There is no certainty that you will see with glasses post graft. Most surgeons say that a graft is providing a better cornea to put a lens on. I have had a graft almost two years now and can see four lines on the eye chart but only with a contact lens, not unaided or with glasses.
Hoping that this has helped a littke? Please come back and post any more questions, we are always here to listen and hopefully give you some answers!!

Hhmm maybe I should take a little bit of my post back! LOL!! Am in the middle of tidying my room as well as posting!!
Having a graft is not saying that you are going to get great vision and most do wear glasses or contact lenses afterwards. You might get away with seeing better unaided but most surgeons would just like to cover themselves. I was told that I would have a much better cornea on which to fit a lens.
Hoping that makes more sense??

Hi Stokie
My advice would be to keep trying with your lenses i too have KC in both eyes and my right is my worst (transplant in 2 months) ive had so many lenses over the past 10 yrs small ones large ones soft one hard ones i still have my large lenses in both eyes yet they dont do anything anymore for my vision as im registered p/sighted but i still wear them (when i can) as my eyes dont feel right without them so in time they do become comfy.
I was dx with KC at 18yrs and i and many other will have thought the same at the time 'I CANT WEAR THESE' take the challenge and WIN as you benefit from the good vision in the end
luv

if a graft improves the vision in my eyes even the slightest of bits that will do for me lol and makes it easyier to wear contacts or glasses
spoke to a mate whos dad had it done he said once the healing process is complete it made vision better and that i wont have no problems in playing football ect is this true?
