Hello group...well, my Oct. 26 graft is healed and well, but with the onset of cataracts I am now back to square one and rally unable to see much. When some of you have had cataracts what DID you see? I have a stack of multiple image again, about like I had before the graft, but not quite as bad.

Further, the is now a growth, for lack of a better term, in the "nose" corner of my graft eye, where I am guessing that there is a tear duct or something. It is swelled up and large inought to see in the mirror, even with my poor vision....not painful, not red....sut a nasty looking swelling. Ever seen or heard of anythng like this? I am off to the optometrist on tuesday.....he is not an optham, but I'll ask him to look at it anyway. Any shared experiences on a thing like this will be most appreciated. If I should call an ambulance RIGHT NOW please advise.

I am scheduled for a PK in the left eye and a lens insertion to eliminate any future cataracts in that eye on April 19. As usual, I can't wait and I'm scared to death.

Btt, between then and now comes St. Patricks day, the biggest day of the year for many pipers. I have a parade and a pub gig lined up. Lots of tips will help to pay the doctors!!

Can't help with the swelling in the corner of your eye. You may be right about a tear duct having become blocked, but in your position I'd be heading for my ophthalmologist rathr than an optometrist.

There are all sorts of cataracts.



A nuclear cataract causes gradual reduction in vision. It may lead to changes in the spectacle correction for the eye such that new glasses are needed frequently, even up to every few weeks.

A cortical cataract may give rise to poor vision associated with seeing haloes around lights or seeing things double with one eye.

Posterior subcapsular lens opacities tend to cause reduction in vision - especially for reading, susceptibility to bright lights and glare.


I had 'posterior subcapsular' and by the time i had surgery last month I really could not see anything. I could not even have my computer screen turned on properly, so I had it set to 'negative image'.

OK, just got back from a sort of emergency trip to the optham, after hours, on a friday night....the growth in my graft eye seems to be a cyst, but they don't know if it is a liquid filled or solid cyst..yecchh.

Awoke today with pain in my non graft eye, lots of pain, redness, swelling and drainage.

After seeing myself in the mirror at about three pm, i decided to call the emergency service number. it is acute viral conjuctivitis....contagious, won't respond to antibiotics.

So, a couple of weeks with no contact on my remaining "good" eye..ya, that's somethinng to look forward to.

I'm going to add to my "signatue" here to read" I JUST WANT TO SEE AGAIN......IS THAT TOO MUCH??

You are having a bad time! No platitudes from me, I am afraid; but instead the assurance that you are part of a global community, every member of which has a sense of what you are going through.

I am glad that you went to have your cist checked out. Are they going to do anything about it, or just leave it in the hope that it will go away by itself?

As for your 'good' eye' that is really hard. Can you still play your bagpipes?
