How long should you wear your Eye Shield for after a graft.
I was told that i only needed to wear it for two weeks, so that is what i did.
Everyone else seems to be wearing them for longer.
I seem to of been given alot of different advice than everyone else :? Most of which i would not post on here in fear of getting a lynching

Anne,

I think some air on the side of caution more than others. So I would go with what your doctors have said. No 2 cases are alike so there may be other reasons have been told to wear them longer, but not told why.

With my grafts, I had a shield for a couple of weeks and my grafts 20 years on are fine.

I get a little confused by differing advice.

I hope I only need to wear mine for a couple of weeks. I think I read you only need to wear it until you've learnt not to sleep on the side of the graft. But I'm sure both you and Gareth probably sleep on the grafted side at times.

I'll ask my Dr a week thursday.

Chris,

I have no choice but to sleep on the grafted side unless I'm flat on my back having had both eyes done :D

I was never told that i shouldn't sleep on my grafted side, so i do.

one of the other problems that i have is that i was told i could start exercise and swimming 3 weeks after my graft, but i haven't because of the advice on this forum.
I have gone back to tap danceing but i used to do Jazz dance and the class would start with a 45 minutes work out, this would invole loads of stomach crunches , bending , squating ,high kicks etc
I am desperate to get back to this but i am really confused by the different advice that i have been given.
Also swimming how long before people have gone back to that? was it longer than 3 weeks!!

When you'be had grafts on both sides it is hard not to sleep on the "graft side". I wore the eye shield for a couple of weeks; if you are worried, wear it up to the next clinic and ask for advice.

By the way, I am back wearing an eye shield again since my cataract on Feb 14; and will probably continue to wear it at night until my appointment on March 15.

i still wear mine - the micropore nearly finished tho. I was goin to ask at my last appointment but i forgot, so I shall try and remember to do so next week, cant guarantee not had a visit to the eye clinic for about a month now so i do have lots to ask lol.

as for swimming you should be ok - i did ask about that for my holidays. If your not sure tho, just try and keep your head above water and/or get goggles. (didnt actually go swimming tho  )

i'll pass with your jazz dancing tho, although i have a question too - is it possible to damage with coughing, im poorly

Anne,

Visit http://www.swimshop.co.uk and get yourself the Speedo Aqua Mask. It is great for keeping water out when swimming, means I can go swimming with lenses in.
