KC, Employers & DDA - what I can't post!

Postby Pat A » Fri 16 Feb 2007 7:33 pm

I have had a lot of problems with work - even though I've not been there for a few months as many of you know. I had a meeting yesterday with my Line manager and an HR representative. Unfortunately I cannot post on a public forum - much as I would like to (name & shame I say!!) - what happened at that meeting.

Suffice it to say, if you have a problem at work, as a result of your KC disability, don't give in! You are covered by the DDA whatever anyone may suggest to the contrary.

And if there is anyone out there with a legal background in Employment Law who would be prepared to give me some " completely and totally without prejudice or comeback impartial & friendly free advice" please PM me!

Pat,

We do have someone with KC and who specialises in employment law, but the question you raise is excellent.

Until we know, I guess it is best to play safe regarding what you post which is why on your post saying what a rough time you've had, call or e-mail me so as to try and prevent any prejudice.

Hello all

Not wanting to add much here as it's really difficult to post on this topic, other than to say this is a lot more common than you all may think.

Maybe we need some kind of support regarding such matters which can be hidden to a certain extent, not necessarily in the members forum as after all anyone can join and then gain access. Maybe the comittee could hold a list of members who are willing to discuss matters around this topic and other could be put in touch with them.

I often read posts however are on some occasions reluctant to post or PM for that matter, after all it's difficult to work out sometimes who is legitimate and who isn't.

Keep smiling

Pat

I was about to PM you the name and eMail address of a member of the Scottish Group who is a disability lawyer, but then I realized that you were in England where the law is different.

Anyway, I did just want to say that you have my unreserved sympathy and support as you go into battle with the forces of discrimination. Loads of people suffer from the casual assumptions of people who ought to know better.

All the best

Yours aye

Andrew

Know exactly where you are coming from Pat A, as am experiencing problems with a now ex employer.

I have found the Disability Rights Commission to be very helpful in my case, along with their Code of Practice - Employment and Occupation publication.

It is amazing how little knowledge line managers and HR reps can have in this matter, similarly for those higher up the chain of command.
