This one will probably make u laugh, but, does anyone know if it is possible for your graft to come loose from ur eye?

Heres my tale of latest tale of woe...

Had an appointment on tuesday, got another loose stitch taken out, doctor said everything was looking good.

However, I've been inspecting tonight, and down the side nearest me nose, the bit where the graft joins, looks like its straight rather than rounded (if that makes sense) so got the camera out and if i look to the right - it looks like part of the graft has lifted. as far as im aware, this is the spot where the leak was. Im not too concerned, i've had no problems like irritation , and there is certainly no pain or redness......and im sure if it was serious it would have been picked up when i had my appointment.

Suppose im just wondering if it is possible for this to happen, anyone know?

If you have any concerns call the hospital.

It could be that it has just healed a bit funny on that side bacuse of the loose stitch that was present, so the new cornea was not held flush against the old as you'd expect.

A topography of my graft shows that it is not a perfect circle, but a picture when it was first done does show it as a perfect circle. All part of the healing process.

I would still get it checked out especially as you ahve a history of loose stitches.

I agree with Gareth. Go to the hospital and let someone have a look at your eye.

If there is nothing you will not be left worrying, and if something needs attention, it can be sorted.

Sarah, My graft has lifted a little bit and i have been told this is due to prolonged inflammation after my graft (because of my allergic eye disease)
At my last check up it was decided to leave the eye alone and not to put any extra stiches in as the eye was looking so good and white, but he said he may put some stiches in sometime to improve vision!
The thing is i have been told about it and know its OK you should really get it checked out.
Just think you will get to see that nice receptionist in A&E again

Yes it is possible. It happened to me with my first graft though not at the stage you're at, but when I had all my stitches removed after 12 months. The whole graft then started lifting off the eye (a very rare occurence, in case other graftees out there start getting worried!) Being ignorant at the time, I left it until my follow up appointment, at which point I was whipped straight into hospital and had to have the whole graft restitched all over again. Not a happy time! You've obviously still got most of your stitches in, so your graft should be safe, but it is possible it's lifting in that one place. So, as everyone says, don't hang around but contact the hospital. It may be that you'll need another stitch put in there. All the very best, and I hope it's soon sorted!
(PS. Despite my drama, that graft is still going strong after 20 years).

Yes sadly grafts can 'lift' in places especially when you have had sitches removed. My surgeon told me that on a follow up but said he would leave it alone to see as i still had loads of stitches in. I wish i had known this then though as i did panic some until i posted and had replies saying the same thing that these do!!

If you are worried i would go and check it out. People go to hospital for very minor things but this is your eyesight and i find that five minutes of me feeling 'silly' is worth it for my peace of mind!!

went to the eye casualty, and my friend was working Gets worse when the doctors start smiling and saying you back again.

Anyway, cornelius isnt failing off, hes just been stitched on a bit too tightly (its the bit where the leak was) and is all bundled up which makes it look like its sticking up, and the reason i can feel it, is cause my eye lovely and dry. Got given some oil based ointment to put in at bed time and whenever i feel it rubbing.

Im happy now, thanks for all your advice....again.
