KC and extended-wear lenses?

Greetings all! I have been searching the archives but without real success. Can anyone tell me if there is any traceable connection between extended wear lenses and KC?

Have any others here worn the extended wear lenses in years gone by? I refer to the ones we were told were OK to wear 7-days and nights and out for a night. I, myself, wore them for years. Now I have had several people tell me that these have caused trouble later in life.

Like everyone else, I'd sure like to know why i was "selected" to live with this condition.

Thank you in advance for any and all information.

Cheers, Piper

Piper,

I do not think there is anything about those types of lenses on this site.

Where we get many people coming now is after they have been assessed for laser treatment to find they have KC and reffered to a hospital.

I only started to wear contact lenses some years after my keratoconus had been diagnosed.

I then wore them for over 20 years before agreeing to a graft. I was guilty of leaving my RGP lenses in for very long periods of time: sometimes as much as 16 hours (although that was rare, I normally broke the day with an hour or so without lenses).

I never had the lenses that were suitable for continuous wear over a week or so. There has been some discussion here of the contribution of poorly fitted lenses to the development of corneal thinning, but I am not sure that this is what you meant?

Yours aye

Andrew
