There are lots of ways to do most anything, I guess. I had my graft, a lamellar, on Oct 26, and had the first eight stitches removed on Nov. 29. My next appointment with the optham. is on Jan. 22 and in a phone conversation yesterday said that they might remove the remaining eight stitches at that time. Then, when the stitch-holes are healed, fit me with a contact lens. When I asked it this was a bit "fast" he told me that his goal was to make my vision as technically perfect as possible based on my needs at work (whereas, a little old lady who only sits and watches TV all day has somewhat different needs).
So, I just have to have faith that this team of professionals, who do MANY of these grafts, know their trade and will do their best.

My un-grafted eye seems to be deteriorating again and simply doing my job and dealing with clients is a challenge at times. But, that's not news to any of you all who have gone before me.

Actually, Piper, I think that much of this is driven by fashion. Ophthalmologists are adept at rationalizing their practice, but much of the reason for doing things in a particular way may have more to do with local conventions than patient needs.

I know we'll all be interested to hear how you get on. All the best for your early removal of the last sutures.

Andrew, yes......seems everyone has a way of their own. If this optham was just another Joe and not the world-renowned fellow he is I'd be more worried.

In the end, I just want to see like I did when I was thirty or so....just needed correction for nearsightedness.....

I'm trying to be a patient patient.

Must say that the shape of the smeary and out of focus image I see with my graft has changed since they cut the first eight stitches. It was a long crescent with sparkles, now is a uniformly round series of sparkles.

I really envy all of you who can see.....with or without grafts and lenses. Sometimes I feel like Job (why me, Lord?) and I'm sure all of you do.
