Hi I'm new to the forum. I had a cornea transplant 6 mths ago. I used to use Baush and Laumb solution for sensitive eyes, and now its setting my eyes on fire. Is it my contact lens solution? What should I use? How often do you clean them and what do you use? Please be specific with solution brand and manufacturer. Thanks

Hi There and welcome to the forum.

The first thing I will say is that if youeyes are painful, even six months post graft go to the eye casualty unit ASAP just to make sure things are OK with your eyes.

Regarding solutions I use Bausch and Lomb with no problems at all. However I never wore lenses six months post graft, I was not given glasses until nearly 12 months. My grafts are 18 yeasr old now and it is since 2004 that I have had a need for lenses again.

Lenses should be cleaned daily when they are removed. I wash the cleaner off with saline andthen leave overnight in wetting/conditioning solution. I also use the Bausch and Lomb protein remover weekly and give my eyes one day a week rest so this is a good time for me to use the protein remover. This gets washed off with saline and then the lenses cleaned as normal and the cleaner rinsed off with saline.

It is possible you have developed sensitivity to the solutions or lenses and it is equally possible that the solutions are highlighting another problem, hence getting to the eye casualty to get it investigated.

With our eye condition an especially grafts, If in doubt get is checked out

Remeber for graft rejection RSVP

R - Redness of the eye
S - Sensitivity to light
V - Vision changes suddenly getting worse
P - Pain

With rejection we can exhibit one or more of the above and if caught early most rejection episodes can be reversed.

Let us know how you get on.

I agree entirely with gareth.

1 Stop using your lenses
2 make your way, without delay, to the eye casualty

All the best
