H i my name is Simon, I was diagnosed 16 years ago, and today I found some information out for pretty much the first time.I didn't even know how to spell keratoconus. My GP was evasive, and my optomitrist was standoffish, at last i know what has/is happening to my eyes

Welcomne to the forum. I hve never put up with any sugggeted evasiveness from meidcal prractitioners. if I wanted to know the answer I just kept asking until the answer was forthcoming.
In truth, I never had to push very hard, and have always found doctors very willing to share with me every aspect of my condition and the options for its management.

Hi Simon,
I think the problem with my GP practice, they do not like to admit there is something they do not know about. This casues problems with my GP which is why I saw the locum whne I needed to be refferd a bit quicker. He admitted he had never heard of KC, but ent out of his way to contact the hospital and see what be could because of his lack of knowledge.
The people who are big enough to admit there si a gap in their knowledge are the ones I have the most time for and I am happy to share my knowledge with them

I saw an optician in 1984 who referred me straight away to Eye hospital in Swansea. They gave me lenses and sent me on my way.
Since then I have almost always been seen by a hospital. At Kingston Royal Eye for about 18 years and Moorfields for about two years.
Oh by the way my GP is very good at chasing Moorfields, when I have no joy.

I guess you're right there gareth, i took a long time, and a Specialeyes high street optician to even notice my problem, i also think my KC is 'rarer' as i knew i had vision problems from age 8, but it took until about 15 until it was picked up, despite seeing various opticians and optomitrists.
i'm havin a bad day today so excuse my spelling if its bad lol
