When Lenses Just Pop Out

Hi Everyone,
I seem to be a victim of my own good luck. On week 2 of RGPs I find them so comfortable that I don't really notice them but...

The problem with that is that one lens popped out without me noticing it. It was the deterioration in vision that alerted me: all was not well. A quick check confirmed the lens was not present. Fortunately, looking down the lens glinted enough for me to see it with the lensed right eye. It was right next to my foot, I could have easily crushed it but I was lucky this time...
It occured to me that this is a serious vulnerability. I take it that spare lenses can be ordered through the NHS and paid for the same as the first set? :?:

Ah yes, very familiar story. Maybe the fit isn't quite right, but even when it is right, mine still pop out every now and then- just used to it now! But yes, I believe you can order a spare.

Yes you can get spares, but afetr a couple of months wear I have not had any lens popping out. I find rapid eye movement especially if my eye is pushes to extreme left or right. Asi I know the cause, I turn my head a lot more so my eye rarely moves to its extreme position to push the lens into a vunerable blink out position.

As far as I'm aware, you can get a spare lens, but not at the same NHS price. You'd have to pay the going rate.

Can someone confirm or deny this from experience?

I once lost one of my kerasofts and had to pay a load extra for the spare. Normally it will set me back about 100 for a new set of lenses. Losing one cost me 80...

I have a bit of a curious question. How do you get your hard lenses out your eye. With my kerasofts a simple pinch does the trick, but i cant imaging you being able to pinch a hard lens

And only ever having worn rgp's I wondered how you get soft ones out. :D

rpg's are easy, I used to just put a finger to the outer corner of my eye lids and pull slightly to one side so the lids came together and popped the lens out into my waiting hand. :D

The other ways for RGP lenses are;

1) Pull top and bottom eye lids apart as you would to insert and gently push the lid margin in and together and the lid margin just pushes the lenses out. Especially useful if you ahve larger diameter lenses or narrow/small eyes.

2) A little plunger that sucks the lens off! Just put on centre of the lens and pull, must take car to always get the lens, but usefull if you need to get lens out in a hurry and have dirty hands that could prove damaging to sight. I use this because of the hazardous chemicals I work with. Always wash my hands well but you can never be too careful :D

Not for everyone works for me

Pull the right eye lid to the right, right lens fly out do the same with the left remember pull to the left.

sometimes if really luck I can pop out the rgp and the soft at the same time

Hehe yes James i can normally do two as well but then i can't clean them both at the same time!! LOL!

I take my RGP lens out the way said here which is really easy and soft ones you just need to pinch and remove.

John i bought a spare lens and paid the same price. I have it in safe keeping in case i need it!
