help me make a decision........

hi everybody.iam years old and i was diagnosed with KC years ago but i feel i have it 10 years ago.iam still studying and i will get married the next year so there will be a lot of responsiblities to have.now iam confused and i need your opinion.iam now wearing piggyback and the vision is perfect but i can't wear them more than 4 hours maximum a day.at the rest of my day i wera glasses but the vision is too too bad with therm.so i don't know what to do?satisfying with glasses with its limited vision????? or making the decision of transplant with all its risks????????? i mean iam still have the choice.......but it is really difficult decision.waiting for your comments.

This ones a really tricky one as even with a Transplant the recovery will take at least 12-18 months.....and even than its hard to predict what the outcome is.

Have you spoken with your specialists there? What do they recommend?

For what it is worth, when I was first diagnosed I continued to wear glasses for some years.

Then I moved onto contact lenses for 20 more years.

Then I had my first graft in 2003 (when I was 53)

Now I am waiting for my second graft later this month.

I say 'for what it is worth' because the experience of one person with KC will not find an exact reflection in anybody else's experience.

Still, we all know how difficult these decisions are, and wish you well.

I think a lot depends on your expectations of the graft.

I wear glasses, not lenses, and my sight is excellent for a KCer 24/7, but that said my sight is not as good as a non-KCer and I am, among other things fairly photophobic. So a sucessful graft is not going to make your KC 'go away' but I see it as minimising the impact KC has on your life.

How likely is it that you can build up your lens use? Or are you at the maximum use?

The thing to remember about a graft is that its aim is to provide a surface where the vision can be corrected easier, in most cases with glasses otherwise contact lenses again.

This is where you the unknown of your ability to heal and the skill of the optician comes into play.
