Hello I have been an occasional reader of the site for over a year. It really is very helpful. I discovered it just before I had a cornea transplant last September. I was diagnosed with KC when I was thirteen and am now 24.

The transplant I had seemed to have gone well. No signs of rejection and I was refracted for glasses after about five months. Unfortunately my vision has deteriorated since I had my stitches removed just over a month ago. I have become alot more short sighted in the eye and will have to wear a hard contsct lens. The possibility of lasic has also been suggested. I just wondered if anybody out there had been in a similar situation and indeed if anybody had undergone lasic on a transplanted eye.

Glad I've finally introduced myself to the KC Crew anyway!

Hi Tom,

Welcome to the forum.

It does happen on occasions that when all the stitches are removed the corneal shape changes. sometimes vision improves and sometimes unfortunatly in your case it worsens.

The only person here I know who has had Lasik is Per who post here. If you do a search on the forum for posts by Per, ou will find some of Pers earlier posts where he had this done.

Regards

Gareth

At least one member of the Scottish Support Group had LASIK on a grafted eye. Indeed one surgeon who came to speak to the Group suggested that this was, in some cases, a valuable treatment option (post graft).

Hi Tom and welcome. My vision also deteriorated quite considerably after the stitches were taken out in my second grafted eye, so I know how disappointing that can be when you've initially had a better result. I now wear contact lenses for optimum vision, but do also have glasses which I wear in the evenings and give me reasonable vision. For me, and I suspect for most people, contact lens wear is much less problematic post-graft than it was pre-graft. Pre-graft they were really painful and didn't do that much for my sight either! Now, I'm not aware of my lenses most of the time (except when all that London grit and dust gets behind them!)
Good luck with whatever you decide.
