Hi Guys,
I have noticed that with soft contact lenses, although the power is better I get a fair amount of ghosting. It's like the lens is floating around causing my focus to shift. It cannot be too much fluid because my eyes are always dry. I am getting fitted next month at Gartnaval for some hard lenses; is it likely that the same problem will occur?

Ghosting may still be present with RGP lenses, depends on how good a fit you get.

Soft lenses do not breath as well as the hard so this may affect vision slightly.

Soft lenses pretty much mould themselves to the shape of your eye so there is a limit to the amount of astigmatism they can corect for. If you have exceeded the limit for soft lenses, this might be why you have ghosting.

Noticed yesterday for the first time when I woke up, if I looked just out my right eye that I actually see quadruple!!! Same this morning, still get fine vision one the lens is in, just think I am more cream crackerd than usual.

Quadruple, that's black catted me! I only see in double but you are in stereo and surround, I feel quite inferior!
I used to put subtitles on for french films, now its easier to try and translate!

Maybe you are just getting better at French!

I'd mention the ghosting to the optometrists at Gartnaven next time: it may be time to move on to a different lens system. Even if it's not, it never does any harm to let the professionals do their job with the best information available.

I was half tempted to say that I was seeing things octuple, but then my better nature kicked in and I have to confess that I really just see one of everything

Dr Ward at Gartnaval thinks Rose-K are the boys for me. Soft lenses are not helping much at the moment and glasses are a waste of time. Its hard lenses for sure and I cannot wait to get them, I just wondered if it was a out-of-the-frying-pan situation. However, both of your posts are encouraging in that soft lenses are more flexible and then there are different types of hard lens. I think Rose-K was mentioned because a kiwi designed them and Dr Ward comes also from NZ!

I wore Rose K lenses. Very cofortable RGP lenses, sat neatly on my eye and continued to work until my cones got too big!

I wish you well with them, of all the RGP lenses I tried they were among the most comfortable.

That's very encouraging! I have noticed my eyesight deteriorating over the last 18 months and was diagnosed with KC in July. Since then I have been aware that a possible solution and better sight was just a trip to Gartnaval away. And boy! Has it dragged? I cannot wait, I have had to put a lot on hold principally because not being able to drive far, so I am hoping the "pause" button will be released in October!
