mould of eye

Postby cherishu2 » Thu 17 Aug 2006 4:44 pm

i have my scheral lens in left eye. Well sight isnt wonderful but its there.
As i am expecting a baby i cant have the cornea graft in right eye now.
Only hope is to go to brum and have a mould done of the eye so a special scheral can be made. see if that works.
How do they do a mould?

Hi Trace,

Congratulations on your bump :D

My optician has had it done to him, and he explained to me that you're given local anaesthetic drops, then a large scleral lens with a tube attached is put in to your eye. Once in place, the tube fills the lens with foam, which is left for a minute or so to harden, and then the scleral lens is removed from your eye.

He explained that it wasn't particularly comfortable, but it wasn't painful either.

I had a mould taken when I had my original scleral lens made. I don't recall it being painful just uncomfortable because you have to keep your eyeball still.

Good luck with it and your bump.

Lesley.

If it not something your eye is used to, then yes a red eye initially is quite common.

Never had a scleral, but getting used to the corneal lens, initially the first 20 minutes would leave my eye quite red. Within in a week, this was no longer happening as I got better at putting the lens in and also my eye being used to having a foreign object put in.

wonderful! Keep us in touch with progress. Are you going to ask about your baby's gender, or are you happy enough to be surprised at the birth?

all the best

Andrew
