PC usage - Looking down to type

I have posted this thread here as in another someone mentioned the difficulties with vision when at their PC and looking down to type.

For many years as an IT Tekky I have always looked down at the keyboard when typing and then checked the screen.

Very bad news on 2 counts :

I had a bad neck

Most important of all on bad days if I could read the screen I couldnt see the keyboard.

I have taught myself to touch type and it has been a godsend. I strongly recommend it I used Mavis Beacon Teaches typing. It does take a long time and is not for the impatient and easily frustrated.

The other thing you will need is a partner who doesnt mind you shouting at him if he interuppts an exercise....

Do try its worth it (not the shouting) and means you can learn to type quickly while keeping close to the screen

I can not touch type, but with the VDU assesment I had to ensure the work station is correctly set and taking regular breaks every half hour posture is OK and neck is fine.

The problems are holding posture in one position for too long that can cause problems.
