Does KC cause pain?

Postby Abbey » Mon 10 Jul 2006 4:56 am

As above. Have been experiencing semi severe eye pain for almost a year now. Becoming a frequent daily occurance. Used to get it occaisionally and it would go away for a while. Also used to only be in one eye, now in both. Now I get it all day everyday, sometimes in both eyes sometimes in just the one.
Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks
Abbey

Hi Abbey,

You do not say if you are wearing contact lenses or what sort of pain it is.

Generally KC itself should not cause pain.

Most who report pain are those who wear contact lenses. The pain can be caused by dryness of the eye, ill fitting lens, protein build up on the lens, eye infections, eye strain etc....

All these are treatable.

Some of the above can occure independant of lens wear as does suffering hydrops, but then you'll have vision problems and the reports of pain are varied.

If you have discomfort and are concerned for any reason, it is always advisable to get intouch with the eye unit that is treating you or make a visit to the eye units eye casualty.

You will be seen and given a diagnoses which would help put your mind at ease.

Hope this helps.

I was getting what I considered eyeball rather than graft related pain in my eyes, particulary my rightm so went to my opthal. It was caused by dry eyes. Lubrication relieved it in my case. For me it felt muscular and shooting. My optometrist did not have a clue, but my opthalmologist said it was the most likely cause. There are extra symptoms when it was the other reasons and I dont know what they are.
I am post grafts and do not wear contact lenses of any kind, just specs. It can also be focusing but he says focusing pain in KC is rare because our brains are so used to the world being out of focus we process it without trying to make our eyes focus.
