Hi guys,

34 year old first time poster here who has been referred to a specialist after finding out about a possible keratoconus diagnosis after a laser eye appointment.

They didn't give much info on the day (presumably as they knew they wouldn't be getting any money!) but I'm left wondering 'how bad is it?'

Any thoughts on the attached??

Laser eye treatment for shortsightedness makes the cornea thinner. If the cornea is already a bit thinner than normal, this could make a mild case of KC worse. So laser clinics now routinely check the cornea before going ahead and do turn up some very mild cases of KC which will probably not progress and don't cause any problems. But do go and see the specialist who will be able to tell you whether your eyes now need closer monitoring. If it is KC, there is now a treatment (CXL) to stop the condition progressing. And given you're in your 30s, which is 'old' for a diagnosis of KC, it may well stay stable. All the best.
