Spoke to soon. Well not really but David has had a torrid time today with his left lens it has fell out three times for no reason. He is not rubbing honest.

He has said from the off that the left lens was not right. What to do folks? Is this common? I have told him to leave it out. The right lens is now fine he says the sight is much improved today and is even running up and down the stair in a more confident way.

Is it OK for him just to wear one lens until we go back on July 7th?

Are you able to determine what he was doing when it fell out? Was there anything in common?

If the next appointment is in July, and he can function and operate with one lens, and you cant move the appt forward, than I dont see a reason why he couldnt just use one lens....

First time it fell out he was on a game and waggling the joy pad, he can be very aggressive with the joy pad The second time he says he just looked down and out it came. He told the optom that the left lens was moving around all of the time. She said that that was OK and not to worry. He's not worried but he is upset and I don't want it to put him off.

Lenses can take a bit to settle with KC, so falling out isn't that uncommon though if it keeps happening, clearly the fit has to be modified.

However, just as the right lens is settling down, so could the left. I would give it a few more chances before you give up on it totally and you could always ring up the clinic and leave a message that this is happening and ask for advice. Just leaving it out won't cause much trouble for David but it might well delay the fitting procedure for that eye.

Glad the right is settling down so well and the increased confidence in running up and down stairs is due to improved depth perception as he is getting his eyes to work together more.

Lynn is, of course, right. Lenses that 'blink' out easily are part of the settling experience common to many KC fits. I think it has something to do with the lower edge of the lens sometimes being clear of the eye so that when the lower lid catches it in a blink, out it pops.

I had a similar problem, but in my case it did settle down.

Under no circumstances should David stop blinking!

it can be quite funny when the contact lens wearer suddenly says, 'nobody move' and the whole room falls to its knees and starts feeling the floor for something round. In my case the 'room' once contained a gaggle of RC and Anglican Bishops and Archbishops as well as the Moderator of the General Assembly. The only person who wasn't on his knees seaching for the lens was the one who had lost it!

Can somebody explain why lenses always land 'open' side up?

With the type of lens fit I have on my right eye normaly the lens sits fine.

However sudden eye movement for me left to right and blinking at the right time I can blink the lens out.

The situations this arose was when I was doing track day sessions and approaching corners at speed my eyes would move rapidly between the rear view mirror and looking out the side windows. All this happens in a split second and with the concentration my eyes are wider than normal so the lids no longer cover the top and bottom edge of the lens so I can blink it out. No longer do this or anyother racing until I find a soft lens that can cope with my KC.

Perhaps this was the case with David, extreme concentration while gaming his eyes were open wider than normal and with rapid eye movement got unlucky. I know too if I look down my eyes for some reason open slightly wider than normal. Sometimes too if my eyes are a bit dry the lens can 'pop' off more in these situations. Pleanty of tears and the surface tension seems to hold the lens in better in more normal non rapid eye movement situations.

Since drinking more and using eye drops along with better lens wear times this occuarnace is quite rare now.

There are days when my lens falls out multiple times in a day. I normally just leave it out for the rest of the day and begin wear again the next day. Let us know how David gets on with one lens if that is what he has decided to do.

I have just managed to get David to read the replies to my post actually on group It's a start. After reading your replies he has gone off to have another attempt with his left eye
