ATOPIC CONJUNCTIVITIS

Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place etc but I'm new to this forum and have been trawling the web for help with atopic conjunctivitis which I've had for nearly 2 years. The consultant has also called it giant papillary conjunctivitis if thats something different? I'm just wondering if any other sufferers have any tips or can offer any other advice. I'm currently using Olopatadine twice a day with cyclosporin ointment at night. While my eyes are much better than they were when diagnosed i.e not constantly red and watering, the spots are still there and both eyes are puffy. I've previously used Opticrom and Prednisolone FML

I've been told I may need a biopsy if the condition doesn't improve but most patients have already responded by now . It's more than 6 months since I started using the ointment, having previously used the drops. I don't use contact lenses and don't suffer with eczema, although I've had sinus problems for some time (not as bad since eye trouble! ).

Thanks

Hi Alyt and welcome,
From a quick google, it seems there are several versions of this - some of us with keratoconus get the type that is induced by contact lens wear. Olopatadine worked for me when I had it some years ago and all the other medications you mention seem to be standard treatments. It's encouraging that your eyes are a bit better, but the condition is still a pain to live with for so long. I presume you've had tests to establish whether there's anything you're particularly allergic to in your environment that is provoking this?

Hi Anne. My consultant didn't recommend allergy tests as he said it was unlikely to identify the cause. I was surprised as I'd expect it to be something identifiable as the affected area is so specific.
Would you recommend pushing for this?
Many thanks

Ah well, I'm no medic, so I just had the same layman's reaction of wanting to find a cause as you did! Do any other forum users have any experience?
