Referred to Moorfields

Postby BenN1 » Thu 14 Jul 2016 9:16 pm

Hi everyone,

I've been monitored for my Keratoconus for over a year now and my doctor at my local hospital recommended me for CXL, he referred me to Moorfields and my appointment is tomorrow.

The letter I have doesn't specify that CXL will be done tomorrow, but it mentions the possibility, are there stages they have to go through before doing it or is it likely that I'll have the procedure performed tomorrow?

Cheers

Hi Ben,

Welcome to the forum.

I don't know whether or not you would have CXL done on your first appointment with Moorfields. It is usual for someone to be monitored beforehand to confirm that keratoconus is progressing and that the cornea is above the minimum thickness for the procedure. As you have been monitored by your local hospital I guess they would have some of the data and that could be why it is listed as a possibility on your appointment letter.

I don't know whether you've seen it put there is a leaflet about CXL on Moorfields website. You can find it on this page:

http://www.moorfields.nhs.uk/condition/keratoconus

I hope that all goes well for you today. Do let us know how you get on.

Lia

Hi Lia,

I did not have the procedure performed yesterday I had some tests completed instead; this was done to provide a benchmark of results to compare to post-CXL.

I am now waiting for the letter with the date of the procedure - I was told it would only be a few weeks.

Cheers,

Ben

I'm pleased that the appointment went well for you and I hope you don't have to wait too long before the procedure.

Lia
