Hello all I've recently been diagnosed with keratoconus. my eyes have always been bad but until now I didn't know how bad.
The specialist has given me new lenses for my glasses but I'm finding them very strange. everything is clearer but I find myself bumping into things and very climbs T so I stopped wearing them.
Today's diagnosis is for a lens to be placed on my right eye, but as my left eye is also very lazy a lens may not help! does anyone have any advice. I'm a single mum of 3 is there any help around support groups etc for myself or children as I've not come across anyone with this in my area and it's very hard to explain what it is. thank you in advance

Re: Recently diagnosed
Hello Gormel66,
Welcome to the forum. Keratoconus can be difficult to explain to others. I think that it is best described as an irregular astigmatism which is why contact lenses often work much better that glasses. Contact lens fitting can be tricky and is has been compared with balancing a saucer on a rugby ball! Hopefully contact lenses will work for you.
If you have any questions do ask.

Re: Recently diagnosed
If you're anywhere near Birmingham, there's a meeting for members this Saturday where you'd meet other people with KC (details are in the post about the West Mids meeting just a few posts down from this one).
And if you'd like a copy of our booklet about keratoconus, which outlines all the options for the condition, just e-mail your postal address to anne@keratoconus-group.org.uk and I'll send you one.
