Hello everyone,
Just been diagnosed with KC from my local hospital after a recent eye test referral.
My appointment was good and the left was mapped by computer etc and told it will be contact lenses.
But then I was told see you in 7-8months.
Am a bit gutted for the wait (nhs), but just wondered if anyone knows how many more appointments I will have before getting my lenses??.
What is the normal process with this?
A friend said to go private but that sounds expensive and proberbly out of my reach.
Thanks for any help
New diagnosis

Re: New diagnosis
Hi Darkelf,
Welcome to the forum.
I suspect that the 'see you in 7-8 months' is to see how much your eyes have changed in that time and that you will have a separate appointment for contact lenses. Eye hospitals tend to have their own contact lens departments whereas some other hospitals refer patients back to the High Street for NHS fitted contact lenses.
I would suggest that you contact the hospital and ask them when you will be fitted with contact lenses. If the hospital does have its own contact lens department the wait could be two to three months for initial appointment, but if they sub contract to the High Street you would probably be able to get an earlier appointment.

Re: New diagnosis
Thanks for that info.
I thought as much, I am 42 so don't think my condition is going to worsen.
The DR I saw said I would have excellent vision so I just want to get on with it!!!

Hopefully you now have an appointment for contact lenses. When you finally get your lenses do follow the opticians instructions carefully especially with respect to building up wear times.
Do let us know how you get on.
