Hi, not sure if I spelled that right but I hope you get the message!
I have had keratoconus for forty odd years in both eyes.
To cut a long story short I am registered blind and am a guide dog user after 7 failed grafts and a growing intolerance to scleral lenses. I have tried, over the years, all sorts of contacts from mini sclerals to hard corneas, none worked for me.
I have an Occutech auto focus telescope for my left eye but it is heavy and uncomfortable to wear for any length of time.
Oh, I have had a retinal detachment repaired and martini tubes fitted to control glaucoma, and 17 eye operations to boot
All done at Moorfields by the way..
Back in august I had a Boston KPro artificial cornea fitted. The eye that had it, my right, is now pain free but the vision is very poor indeed, in fact no real useful vision to speak of.
Right, to get to the point, has anyone had a KPro fitted? If so, how long did you have to wait before the vision cleared? How good is the final acuity?
I know we are all different but I really wanted to get in touch with other KPro users.
Sorry to rattle on so long
Thanks for reading!
Steve

Re: Keratoprosthesis
Thanks Anne for your kind comments via email.
It,was just a hope that I might contact another KPro patient here, just to chat really. In any event, it seems I will need my lovely guide dog for a while yet, the vision in the KPro eye is not good at all, just hand movements, so back to the drawing board I guess.
I suppose that the fact that no one has replied is a GOOD THING really, I wouldn't want my experience of keretaconus visited on anyone!
Cheers
