Lenses falling out inexplicably

Postby Jugger » Thu 21 Aug 2014 9:14 pm

Hi all,

I’ve been having some issues with my lenses such that I’ve only been able to wear the left one. I was walking home from work today on my way to the train station and all of a sudden I couldn’t see. I wondered what had gone wrong. I felt my left eye and my lens had fallen out. How exactly, I don’t know as all I did was blink. As it was dark outside there was no way I was ever going to find it.

It was very disconcerting trying to get home when everything was a blur.

I don’t understand how this happened or how to prevent this from happening in the future.

Anybody else ever had a similar experience?

Frequently in my pre-graft days - I spent hours of my life on my hands and knees on the floor with a torch so it would pick up the reflected light from the lens! As the cone changes shape, the fit of the lens can become more difficult and the lens becomes more unstable in the eye. I don't know of any way to prevent it, but a larger diameter contact lens might help, so do talk to your contact lens fitter. It's also why we recommend people always having a spare lens. It's very frustrating otherwise waiting for a replacement lens to be made.
Good luck
Anne
