How long between appointments

Postby Carole Rutherford » Thu 20 Apr 2006 8:58 pm

It is one week today since David's last appointment at the eye hospital, and that followed a ten week wait from the perivous appointment where he was measured for his lenses. When we went last week his right eye had progressed which meant that the lens was no good :( We both questioned the wait between appointments and were told that there were too few optoms to carry the load. We were also told that a new lens would take approx 7 to 10 days to be returned to the hospital. We were then promised that David would be seen again within the next ten days. Lo and behold the appointment arrived today and it is for May 11th which means a month between appointments, which I understand is not so long really but is this the norm please?

thanks

Carole

Most hospitals do sadly have a long waiting list down to not enough optoms and drs and also because of a large number of patients.

I had to cancel an appointment with Moorfields about three weeks ago and phoned them straight away to book another one. The earliest they can do is June 16th which means around a three month wait.

It is annoying for us, and optoms and drs feel the same but sadly there isn't much that can be done about it. If you are really worried about any eye problems then drop in to 'A & E' just to put your mind at rest.

The lens ordering is different everywhere and depends if they make the lens on site or send away for it. My optom back home only took a day to get me a new lens as everything was on site, but a lot of places don't have this.

Hoping you can get it all sorted soon, Sweet X x X

Carole

A month wait is not sooo bad when you relate it to other times.....which can be upto 3 months.......but I am glad that it wasnt that case for David!
