Ok ... i know that this is not really the place to post this but the FAQ place isn't either as i'm not going to answer it! LOL!

Recently there have been a few posts on how to put lenses in and indeed take them out and while to most of us here we find this second nature maybe we should put up a FAQ with some diagrams? Why i'm not going to answer it is because i can't draw!! LOL!!

I think it would be really useful though and even though we don't all use the same technique it would give a general idea to those new at it, as well as the whole sclerals thing. I think there were some posts somewhere about inserting those, just needing some pics which Ken would probably let us borrow from his advice sheet on it!

And also as we are talking about different lenses anyway in treatment options and having covered how to put them in and out, maybe we should add some brief info on solutions? Just the basics, not advertising any brands, but just how to clean them, why we need to and storage etc.

Am thinking on this and any ideas would be great! Thanks, Sweet X x X

When I got my lenses, they came with a handy boocklet complete with diagrams for inserting and removing lenses which I often refferd to when I first started with my lenses.

I still have it, I can scan and e-mail the pictures toJohn to add to this and the reply Lynne gave before on the subject.

Would have to wait until the backend of this week when I am back in the UK.

Hhmm yes i have seen some of those but am thinking that we need some authourity on whether we can use it?

There must be comebody who could write a brief description on putting in different sorts of lens and taking them out again.

I know how to put in and take out the lenses I wore, but I never grappled with pibby backs or PMMA lenses ...

John, I will cut out the images and also scna the whole document so you have all relevent information. It is from a contact lens supplier so it will be copyrighted.

Hhmm ok ... there is no real difference with inserting a soft lens to an RGP you just take it out differently! On piggy backing you just insert the soft one and stick the RGP on top exactly as if it wasn't there. It sticks really well so there is no real difference.

I am very good at inserting a lens in my right eye but trying to put sclerals in both eyes was so dam odd! I was ending up using the same hand for both as i am only used to inserting one lens! Dam confusing!!

I use my left hand to hold the lens before inserting in my right eye, so with those of you who wear two lenses do you hold a lens in your right hand to place in your left eye?? Or does it go mainly by using your dominant hand for both??!!! See dam confusing to me which is why i only mentioned this FAQ and didn't write it!!!!!!!

I think we should use the technique used on the leaflet as that is what most use and with experience people can make up their own ways.

I have several booklets produced by contact lens manufacturers with accompanying pics but they are copyrighted so we can't just lift them.

We could of course ask permission to use them in return for a mention - but that depends on whether the committee want a commercial intrusion on the site?

Someone gifted in graphics (ahem.. cough... Knight?) could use the pics as a basis for diagrams. We could also persuade members to model for us? Like John putting in his sclerals??

The writing up I could sort as explaining insertion and removal is something I do every day !

So is it your dominant hand then?

People usually learn by switching hands between left and right.... then as they get experienced and don't have to hold lids so much, they often use one hand which is usually the dominant.

But then again,m if there is one thing I have learnt in m,y years as an optom is that everyone has their own way of inserting and removing!!
