Is your keratoconus mild? I have mild keratoconus in one eye which has progressed recently and graft in the other in which eye sight is really bad.

My vision has been affected after left eye progression and becomes blur especially when driving. I can't drive anymore. Sometime near vision gets blurred and more often far vision gets blurred.

For this reason I have just ordered kerasoft2 lens after trials and hope my conditon gets better. In your opinion will the lens help?

Thanks.

Asif

Hi,

I take it your blurred vision is because you don't currently wear any glasses or contacts?

- Is your keratoconus mild?
I think my KC is advanced in both Left and Right eyes. Right eye is worst. I'm left eye dominate, so my right eye is largely ignored for vision. It just fills in the background.

As KC is unique, its not as simple as 1 lens or lens type fits all. I use KC 2 at the moment as that's what gives me the best vision. I'm going to be trying KC 3 next week. I tried Hybrids and piggy backs and they were a little worse. Some people prefer RGPs. You really need to try different types of lenses to see which gives the best vision. With KC, your condition will never improve. It will either stay as it is or progress worse.

The consultant told me last week that he thinks he has seen some progression within the last 6 months. So he's referring me to St Pauls, Liverpool for an assessment and potential CXL.

But do you achieve perfect vision with the lens? How do you compare with/without lens wear?

Perfect vision?
No. I doubt that anyone will get perfect vision with KC. I get the best vision that I can possible get. I still get ghosting and halos around lights. Hardly noticeable during daylight. Night time/dark conditions is not so good. Yet I still drive at night.

Without lenses, I'm lucky if I can read the top line of the eye chart. Lenses do make a huge difference to my vision. But perfect its not.

I gave up looking for perfection, as you just end up chasing dreams :(

Some of us are fortunate to get perffect vision, With Kerasoft 3, I could get 6/6 which mtached my RGP lenses, but unlike RGP lenses, I could wear the Kerasoft3 all day. With the Kerasoft IC, I get 6/5 and on a really good day, I can get 6/4.5 which is better than the considered norm and far better than I ever got in RGP's before I developed an intoerance to them.

It is just a case of taking time to find the lens which is best for you.

For me comfort and having sufficient vision to drive in all conditions is my priority, anything elese is a bonus.

With RGP's I still got halos and flares around lights at night or bright conditions, but no such thing witht eh Keraosft IC. I think any of the residual visual defects like halos etc are signs that the lens isn't perfect, but if the effects are reduced, then things are getting better.

I get those with Kerasoft 2. I'm going for Kerasoft 3 fitting on Thursday. I've told my lens fitter that I'd like to try Kerasoft ICs too :)

I am just wondering if ks2 fitted well for me then why not 3 and ic.

I am meeting another optometrist next week so lets hope for the best :).

Like I have said before there is no one lens that suits us all.

The Kerasoft 2, 3 and IC are all very distinct designs and the materials as far as I am aware are very different.

Then there is the shape of your eyes to consider.

All variables need to be considered and one, all or none of the lenses may work.

That is just the individual nature of KC.

It could also be the fact your lens fitter is better at fitting the two rather than the other types of soft lenses.

I hope so thats the case.

I will try ic again in few days so fingers crossed....

6/5 vision means better than 6/6 , right?
