I used to use protein removal tablets very rarely and certainly some optometrists did agree that with some of the newer cleaning solutions they weren't as necessary and they didn't complain about the state of my lenses. But for the last year I have been using the tablets much more frequently and taking more time over cleaning the lenses but the lenses are still suffering from protein build-up.

May I just say, this sort of issue is precisely why a new form of vision registration is needed. I am trying to collate information to illustrate the issues that KC people who wear contact lenses have. Could I have permission from people on this thread to print the posts out and use when presenting information to the various professional bodies?

You have my permission to use this post. I think that the new registration is a fantastic idea. The situation I find myself in is I am now faced with a 6 week wait just to be seen again. I did speak to the consultants secretary but there are no free slots, maybe a registration scheme would allow them to subcontract me for want of a better word to a more experienced optician in the community. I don’t even know if that’s possible these days. I have been in touch with the Kerasoft people so I know who does that lens type locally (if it’s even suitable or the answer to my problems is another question). I don’t think I have any choice but to wait to see the consultant in case a more drastic treatment is needed. I have had KC for nearly 30 years so I know that something is not right by a long way. That unfortunately counts for nothing when you are on the phone. The pain that I suffered at the weekend happens probably every ten days or so. Most nights when I get back from work the lens has to come out. Whilst I can just about manage one eyed to type this (in Word size 20 font before cut and pasting into the forum). I cannot drive safely to and from work one eyed as the vision from my left eye is not good enough on its own. I work in IT so have to be in front of a monitor. There are times when I have not been able to see the screen I am working on. It is getting to me emotionally as well I dred the thought of the next six weeks. My home life is suffering. Two weeks in the South of France lens free if required is what’s keeping me going at the moment.

It must be incredibly frustrating having to wait so many weeks. But hang on in there - I'm sure there will be a solution for you, whether by dealing with the raised scar or by giving you a different type of contact lens which doesn't press on it. In the meantime, have you talked to the occupational health people at work to see what adjustments can be made for you? If they can get Access to Work involved this might help with your immediate problems.

Thanks for your kind words. To be honest work is not a worry. I work for a great company and they are being very good. In the three year I have been there I have never pulled a sick day so they appreciate that something is not right. If I needed to I could work from home. As you say it is frustrating with the delay but what can you do. I'll just have to slow down a bit over the next few weeks won't do me any harm

hi there. a slow down is never bad for you. i always notice that i struggle much less when i am on holiday!
if you have to work on a computer all day- you may want to consider one of those little humidifiers under/ next to your desk. I have been told that people blink less when looking at a screen... and that this causes a lot of the discomfort.
