Hi Andrew

Thanks for that yes we have the nf factsheet and the hospital knows about what happened and you are right it can be prevented as they are planning on giving me antibiotics before and after the surgery so it doesnt happen again (not that it will as it is a freak thing)

I keep saying to myself lightening doesnt strike twice and i think will the right support and plans in place i will have it done.

thanks again

take care

Hi Emma,

I also have Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca, but i never realised the link betwween that and Sjogren's syndrome or Lupus.
This is something i will be chatting to my Dr about.
What do you use for your Keratoconjuntivitis? And if it is any help i had a graft in November and i have had great results so far :D

Hi Anne

I have prednisolene steroids they have tried everything what should have made things better only made things worse due to my allergies.

Have you had Immunology tests done?

http://www.uklupus.co.uk if you want to read up about it, please dont worry yourself thinking you may have something else i needed to ask anyone on this site that question just to see if anyone else has the connection with lupus.

Take care

What sort of graft are you having?

Hi luv

This might sound silly but i didnt know there were different graphs could you please explain!

Im happy to hear your's is doing great ive been on prednisolone for past 8 yrs i think that alone may have done some damage because it shouldnt be used that long but it's the only one that helps.

Just out of interest do you get DLA?

My reason for asking is i do and i aslo get direct payment for a cleaner to come in everyday to minimize the dust level because i only need to look at a duster and i look like ive done 12 rounds with tyson.

I would give anything to have a good set of eyes and im sure everyone on this site would agree.

with luv

Hey Emma,

Basically there are two grafts but surgeons have different ways of preforming them!

1) A full graft or penetrating. This is where all the layers of the cornea are removed along with the epithelium cells (bottom layer) and replaced with the donors.

2) Partial or DALK (Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty) hehe just to give it its full name!! This is where some layers on the top are removed but the endothelium [Edited by John] cells are left intact. You only receive the top layers from the donor.

There are many advantages and diadvantages which you will find out, along with what the surgeon suggests and is comfortable with. The main advantage of a DALK is less rejection rates as you are keeping most of your own cells.

With a DALK though you are told in the consent that it might need to be a full graft if it doesn't go as well in surgery. You can always have a full graft after a DALK, but not the other way around!

Hoping that helped! There is some information on the home page, link at the top of the page!![/i]

Sweet great explanation

Just a bit of Moderation/a nudge of the moderator: Swop the word Epithelium with the word Endothelium when no-one is watching!!
