I think we need a software section with a list of available software that can be of use to KC people.
KC is about facing the challenges it creates rather than accepting the problems it generates -

Jay, John (and anyone else!)

I am a member of a local organisation - Saffron sight http://www.saffronsight.org.uk - who have been tremendously helpful & supportive to me - as well as this group - and who do list available software (and where to get it) on it's website. (They are going to put a link to this KC Group site on theirs eventually as well) - but through them I have also discovered a site called http://www.whitestick.co.uk and there's loads of stuff on there that may be of use to members with visual imapairment because of KC. So perhaps some additions to the "useful links" might be appropriate? Just a suggestion...

Excellent, Pat; thanks.

I'll add this to my "to-do" list!

Finally completed.

We're now on the latest (non-beta) version of the software.

I'm running a beta version of the forum on a much smaller board... and boy is it good!

It will come with a raft of features for you the users as well as Gareth and I as administrators... the important one being the ability to make the spam-bots somewhat less potent.

Anyway, please report any problems since this upgrade.

No, the updates I applied last night were all security fixes, and shouldn't be noticable.

The REALLY HUGE upgrade will have lots of communications, as it will change the look and feel somewhat, too.

I understand though that several people can no longer see "General Discussion forum" - and I'm scratching my head on that one!

Any idea when we can expect to see the brand new all singing and all dancing forum?

I can't wait.

Andrew

No, sorry. :x

The new code is in "Beta 5", and the next version will be "Release Candidate 1". There will be probably two or three candidates. Then we'll get version 3.0.0.

Once RC1 is out, I can start playing with it to practice converting all the current messages, and customising it to give it our red-and-blue look and feel. Once that's complete (and we're at least on RC2), then I'll get us live.

In the meantime, I'm getting practice administering a much smaller board using Beta5.

So in answer to your question... "sometime this year". All the software is written by people like me in their spare time, so it can take a while... phpBB3 has been in the making for almost five years now, and there is LOTS of testing to do - that's the trouble with having so many nice features.
