Hi DJ

The professionals I have seen here in the UK have given the impression that grafts are only given when all other methods of achieving acceptable vision have been exhausted. I wouldn't say they were 'quick to do grafts'.I have had a graft but my cornea was scarred and I was becoming increasingly intolerant to my lenses.

I was diagnosed with KC about 5 years ago and on a number of my many many trips to the hospital the opticians and the consultants have all insisted that a corneal graft is the exception rather than the rule, and was only done in extreme cases where lenses were no longer appropriate.

Obviously every person is diferent but I have never been given the impression that a graft would be easy to get.

I think the proffesionals usually quote 5 - 10% of people with KC will ever need a graft and fewer still a graft in both eyes.

The only reason im getting this graft, is because (a) I cant wear a lens in that eye anymore, it falls out ALL the time, and (b) There happened to be one available so quickly.

What a nightmare! I have yet to master the art of 'blinking' my lenses out. The left one often shoots out whilst the right seems to find it amusing to hide :roll:

Must be awful to have to contend with one just dropping out randomly :?

Took me ages to find why one lens would randomly drop out and it came down to if my eyes were really wide open and if I looked in one particular direction. The eye lids would then be able to just catch the edge of the lens and pop it out.

Now it can make life easy when I want remove the one lens quickly :D

Hahaha!! Yes it does come in handy i suppose, the fact that they pop out so easily! I get annoyed though, because when i first got my lenses, i had all the trouble in the world trying to get them out, and they found it very amusing to hide also! But now they come out all the time, i blink and there they are sitting in my eye lid, or eye lashes or something, Grr!!!

I once had a very active pair of lenses. If you blinked hard, sneezed or even glanced around quickly, they would scoot off up and under my eyelid or wedge themselves right in the corner :x

Needless to say they didn't last long at all :)
