Hi everyone.
I am not going to get into the detail of the story, but my life with KC is an absolute nightmare.
Hard contact lenses, soft with hard on top, INTACS put in the eye and removed, you name it, not able to work without correction…
Now going for the Kerasoft 3. I had first fitting today with a good optometrist that really wants to help for a change at a NHS hospital.
Usually my left eye is easier to fit but in this case not really, I don’t know why? That already made me skeptical.
I am very confused about if this will work or not.
1) Optometrist fit the lenses on my eyes.
2) 60 minutes wait for them to settle.
3) Then she started to put the different spectacles on the frame to get the right prescription.
As you might know I have massive distortion for the astigmatism and all the way through the process my vision was out of focus, never crystal clear although with reduced distortions.
On the right eye the vision was more stable than the left eye and I could see 2 lines below the driving mark but not clear.
She said that when I get the lenses with the prescription and the right fitting that will be better and the distortions might completely disappear even though they provably must be twicked one or two times to get to that point.
Does anyone knows how realistic that is or is just her expectations?
Is that normal on the fitting process?
What was your experience with this?
Thank you for your answers

Hi Alex,
Welcome to the forum.
As you have discovered the fitting of contact lenses for keratoconus is a frustrating process. Not just for us as the patient but also for the optician.
The process you describe of fitting the lenses, leaving them to settle and then over refracting is a common process used for all different types of lenses. It's also not unusual for a prescription to be tweeked a few times to get an optimum prescription. I've not tried kerasoft lenses but I know several people who are very pleased with them. Here's hoping that they work for you.

Although I never tried Kerasoft lenses, the process you've spoken about seems completely normal.
I've been going to the optometrists for a couple of years now and have never got the point of saying, yup, those are the ones! The prescription is constantly being tweaked... I did get to a place I was happy with my vision, but then a few months later it 'went' again, and needed further adjustment (this is after CXL too, which is meant to stabilise the condition)
I know it's frustrating but try and stay optimistic
