Hello
This is just a quick question regarding RGP contacts
I have been using RGP CIBA vision brand – (elliptical shaped?) With no problems whatsoever, for my KC
On a recent visit to my optician I was told that CIBA is now discontinued and the option now is rose K lenses.
However the rose K provided does not provide vision comparable to that of my old lenses, actually (I can’t read the subtitles on the tele-text or read the text on the phone, vision is only good if I look directly at something)
On a quick look at the web I have seen a company David Thomas and some others stating that they offer a lens similar to the discontinued CIBA.
My question is, has anyone here not had success with rose K and successfully found a replacement for the CIBA - same lens style?
I would like to hear from anyone with any experience, as this is really something that I need to solve and I can’t keep trying different lenses, when the old ones work so well.
Regards
M.

Re: RGP CIBA and replacement
Hi M,
Welcome to the forum.
I've not heard of the CIBA vision brand, but there are lots of different RGPs on the market. It is David Thomas who supplies the RoseK lens in this country so do ask your optician if he is able to get the David Thomas CIBA equivalent lens. However he may have chosen to limit the number of fitting sets he has and has chosen to have the RoseK lens as it works well for many KCers.
I think we've all had this problem at some time. It's not unusual for two lenses to be made to the same specification and behave differently. One can be comfortable and another not. Or the effective power can be different. It is extremely frustrating not knowing whether it is better to wear the old worn out lens you can see through and the new one that you can't.
Do go back to your optician and explain the problems you have having and whether it is OK to wear the old lenses. It could be that the old lenses, although comfortable and giving good vision, may have been causing other problems. Hopefully all that is required is a slight adjustment to the prescription.
