Cost of DALK

Postby Wiqs » Sun 12 May 2013 7:22 am

Hi All

I am new to this site and am looking for some general advice.

I am an advanced stage kerataconus patient and am considering the DALK treatment. Is anyone aware of the costs for this procedure?

Regards

Cost of DALK

Hello Wiqs and welcome to the forum.

You don't tell us where you are posting from, but I'm guessing that you are outside the United KIngdom as DALK is provided free to UK nationals on our National Health Insurance Scheme.

I guess that your jurisdiction will have an affect on the cost of the procedure.

Every good wish.

Hi Andrew

Many thanks for this information. Apologies for the delay in responding.

I am a UK national, but am currently working as an expat overseas. The treatment is not provided here, and in any case I would not trust a surgeon here anyway.

I am intending to return to the UK for good in August, which is why I was inquiring about the treatment.

So, am I correct in assuming the best way is for my GP to recommend me for a DALK op? Or is there some other way for me to get the ball rolling?

many thanks for this information.

Regards
Wiqar

Oops, I'm afraid I can't answer that question; i have no direct knowledge of how things work for people in your circumstances. A GP referral is usually a dependable way into the system, but in Scotland nowadays a referral from a high street optometrist direct to ophthalmology can be a fast track route to the same destination.

All the best

Andrew
