Charlotte's hydrops - funny changes

Postby Charlottes mum » Thu 14 Feb 2013 10:50 am

:( Hi there,
Am wondering how hydrops progresses given that it's very different for each individual. Charlotte is now on day 17 and I think that in the past couple of days the cloud in her left eye looks more to me than it did this time last week. Its not gunky but it tears up from time to time especially at the end of the day when she is tired. She's not complained of much pain (and she would if it was there!!) but she said the top is a bit sore (on her lashes she said) a bit vague but she does her best to describe it. The eye doesn't look overly red or bloodshot and area not hot or anything. They told us at clinic to watch for things like that as signs of poss infection. She's very careful when washing her face and it's me that bathes the eye with cooled boiled water so that I know its had a wash after all that lacri-lube going in throughout the day (which she whinces at when I put it in).

Bearing in mind I saw the hydrops literally minutes after it happened and so have seen it's development. Dr at clinic that first day told me that it would get worse before it got better but that was day one and I thought that it would've stopped developing by now if that's whats happened?

Thanks for your replies thus far and for the pms/emails too. Good to know that we are not alone in this rubbishy time.

Char remains largely happy, singing, dancing etc. She wrote me a lovely little note this morning which I've attached as it was so sweet I wanted to share it with you. Hope that's ok and hope its attached actually!

Hi there, I think I have experienced what Charlotte is describing!

For me it starts out as if the eye lashes are itchy where they emerge from the eye lid, as if something has dried on, so to avoid rubbing your eyes, you gently tease the eye lashes to remove it, I suppose it is like a loose eye lash or a hair trapped that rubs when you blink. However over time as you touch the same area gently each time it becomes drier and more sore. This only happens now to me if my eyes water alot after putting my lenses in and I don't dab the excess tears away.

On only one occassion have I had to squirt a cream in my eyes and it isn't uncomfortable as such it is just a cold sensation on the cornea which you don't normaly expereince so you wince slightly so this may be what Charlotte is experiencing.

As to what to suggest to make it easier I am unsure because you want to avoid drawing anything out of the eye that you have put in but you want to avoid agravating the problem.

I wonder if an ice pack wrapped in a clean towel would be soothing enough to reduce the sensation of a sore eye?
Gareth
