Post-Miraflow bad vision - desperate

Postby oferco » Sat 09 Apr 2011 5:30 pm

Hello all,

For over ten years I am wearing scleral GP HARD contact lenses.

In the past, I suffered from Stevens Johnson Syndrome. This terrible illness left me with very low vision in both eyes. The lenses improved the general feeling in my eyes, and dramatically improved the vision of one of my eyes.

All these years I've been using Ciba Vision's Miraflow.

As you probably know, this wonderful daily cleaner is not to be found anymore.
My optician recommended Lobob. I tried it, but it was too "strong": my vision - i mean without the lenses, and of course with them - became very cloudy, I became very sensistive to light again, and the eyes were red and in pain.

Now I'm trying Avizor's "gp". It is somewhat better than Lobob, but still the above symptoms reoccur, and there are days in which I found myself enforced to take off the lenses and rest.

In short, in the last two months, the quality of my life has deteriorated greatly.

Please, if you can, advise me:

Have someone experienced similar "after affects" when changing his/her lenses' cleaner?

Is there a solution which is THE SAME as Miraflow, but is marketed (anywhere in the world) under a different brand?

Do you recommend trying other solutions?

Many thanks,
Ofer

Ofer

Welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear about the trouble you have found in your search for a suitable cleaning / wetting / soaking solution since your former favourite became unavailable.

We are not, actually, in a position to recommend a replacement; what suits me may not suit you.

For what it is worth, I use AMO Total soaking/wetting solution in conjunction with AMO Total cleaner. I also Bausch and Lomb Saline to rinse my lens and lens carrying case.

All of these solutions suit me very well, but as I say, they may not suit you at all. Be guided by your optometrist; it may just be a case of your having to keep trying until you find the product or product range that suits you best.

Every good wish.

Andrew

Ofer,
I've just looked back at the thread on Miraflow here last year when Miraflow was withdrawn (if you put Miraflow into the search on this forum you'll find it). A couple of people reported that some hospitals were using EyeEye Crystal Cleaner as a replacement for Miraflow, so that would be worth a try. I'll also see if I can get any more info from an optom who specialises in sclerals and report back if I can.

Dear Anne,

Indeed I found that EYEYE's Crystal Cleaner is said to be a replacement for Miraflow. I am trying to purchase and try it.

Many thanks for your help. I'd be happy to read any furhter information.

With best wishes,
Ofer

Just an update - another solution that the optom is trialling is called i-clean! (the exclamation mark is part of the name). It's close to Miraflow in its chemical formula, but a bit less viscous.

Hi oferco, not sure where you are located. I had to move off Miraflow and use the eye eye crystal. I ordered it as soon as I found out it was an alternative so I still had Miraflow to go back to. I get on really well with eye eye crystal and bought mine on line.
Its more expensive than Miraflow but is a 40 ml bottle.

Dont know if it counts as advertising but who cares you have a problem so:

there you go shoot me if you dare. I am sure there are other online sites too.
