Can you improve KC with eye exercises?

Postby katrina » Tue 22 Jun 2010 10:14 pm

Hi - my boyfriend was recently diagnosed with KC by his optician at age 40. He was sent to Whipps Cross Hospital for futher examination; they did not recommend any treatment at this stage - they want him to go back in 6 months to see if/how his condition has changed. He vision is pretty bad so I'm surprised at this decision. He has been researching natural rememdies and believes he can heal himself through eye exercises such as those on http://www.unleash-your-vision.com/. Is this possible? I'd appreciate your feedback this matter. Katrina

Hello Katrina and welcome to the forum.

First the good news; as we get older our corneas tend to 'stiffen' naturally; for this reason keratoconus us usually a self-limiting condition and it may be that your boyfriend would never need anything more than contact lenses to manage his condition.

As to people being able to heal their keratoconus by eye exercise, it is hard to see how this could work. Surely eye exercise may help with all aspects of sight that involve muscles working on the eye, but keratoconus is a progressive malformation of the cornea caused by the actual cornea thinning and bulging out of shape. There is no muscular involvement. Eye exercise would improve the ability of the lens to focus, but it is still looking through a distorting 'window'.
