Intacts in a few days

Postby Helen G » Fri 22 Jan 2010 9:28 pm

Hi all, I have been lurking and reading posts a little over the past few weeks.

My eyes have continued to deteriorate slowly over the past months, so I was offered intacts for my left eye which will be done this tuesday, if they work then the cataract will be removed in a few months hopefully.

I have read and asked questions as much as I can but it seems the recovery varies massively, with some people having great vision from day one, others taking months to see well, I asked what the odds were that I would get good enough vision to drive again etc and was told around 30% which seems low i guess. But its still better than the long wait and recovery for a graft (and I can still have that if this fails)

So next week is both exciting and daunting. I have become more comfortable about having low vision, but still the thought of how to manage with less vision even for a short time is a bit worrying.

I'll let you all know how it goes, if anyone has experience, advice etc it would be very welcome :)

Helen

I went into hospital to have my intacts yesterday in left eye.

All seemed to be going well, 1st on the theatre list which I was glad about. When I woke up there was no pain and vision seemed unchanged, so I thought it was amazing!.... Until the dr came around and told me the machine had broken down and they had actually done nothing (other than put me under a GA). So after a few hours to recover I came home to wait for another date to go back.

I guess there's no real harm done other than a very sore throat (i think from the breathing tube), only a bit fed up that it drags out the time until I hopefully can get back to driving and all the things i miss doing :(

How frustrating for you. I hope it hadn't put you off going back.
