SO2 Clear Lenses

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to let you know how I am getting on with my new SO2 Clear Lenses. All I can say is I think that they are brilliant and everyone should give them a go. When I was first diagnosed with KC I was fitted with RPG Lenses, but because my eyes are very dry, I did not get on with them at all . So, it was decided that I should have a transplant but my opthalmologist was unsure because I am so young. He had heard about these new lenses and they work brilliantly. They are the latest from America and have changed my life completely . What is also very good about these lenses, even with my very advanced KC, I am only middle range with the lenses, so as a I get older and the KC worse I will still be able to have lenses fitted. I am now able to do lots of things I couldn't before and in September I am going to University to do my Teacher Training!

Hi Jennie,

Glad to hear that you're getting on well with the SO2s! I've had these lenses also for a few months and am getting on fairly well with them! Just wondering - do you ever have trouble with air bubbles under the lenses when you insert them? Sometimes I get them and have to re-insert several times to get them in right.

something that was given to me as an idea for getting rid of air bubbles with a different set of lenses (not sure if this would work for you though) was to fill my lenses with saline solution and then insert the lenses, apparently it minimises that chances of air bubbles and eyes drying out

When my hosppital showed me how to put lenses in they said what ever the lens fill it with some solution.

1) Reduces air bubbleds forming beneath the lens when you put it in.
2) Provide some initial lubricaion between the lens and cornea while it centres itself.

Now I use a drop of Systane in the lens to achive the above plus it helps stop my eye drying out. Without Systane, a saline or lens solutio made no difference to my eyes drying out.

Very much a case of mixing and matching others suggestions to find what best suits you.

I always fill my lens with solution prior to insertion - I think part of the problem is carefully balancing the lens (it's a mini-scleral size) on 3 fingers whilst keeping my head horizontal so as not to spill the liquid when I bung it in my eye. I think I may also think there are bubbles sometimes when there aren't any (the lenses seem to show reflections on their surface!)

I'll try Gareth's idea of putting some systane (or maybe clinitas soothe which I've been using) in my eye first and see what happens......

Hi.

You don't need to try balancing mini-sclerals on three fingertips.
You can hold them beteween thumb and first finger at opposte edges, just like yone does with a full-sized scleral.
At least, that's what I did when I tried them.
It makes sliding the thing under the top eyelid easier too.
I put saline into it before inserting too, to guard against air bubbles.
Fitter seemed ahppy for me to treat them just like full-sized sclerals - and take them out the same way too.
I didn't get on with them - but then, it has always seemed to be "bigger the better" with the full-sized sclerals, too.
