Hi guys.
I went to see my contact lems specialist because i cannot wear my left lens. I am currently waiting for a graft on right at leeds.
Anyway he said there is a new lens come out th\at is a mixture of hard an soft outer and is larger and more difficult and expensive. He has to get a fitting kit done but go bak in 6 weeks then another 6 weeks for them to be made. So LOl am walking about with one gd eye and one not.. I keep walking into places where i shouldnt. trying to bowl is wonderful fun. Ive taken to using an eye patch.
The only thing he said was that hope they didnt send me for my graft inbetween else b very difficult with no left lens to back it up.
It sounds to me like the piggyback but he said it was just one lens.
Anyone heard of this?
new lenses?

Michelle,
I have had one of these lenses for about a month ( RGP in other eye ), and after three fittings it is now fitting very well, and the comfort and wear time is superb.
The vision is not quite as sharp as with the RGP, but all in all I am really happy with it.
What did surprise me was the time your specialist says they will take to be made, each time mine were ordered thet took about a week to come in, so they can be done quicker than the six weeks.
Good luck with them anyway.

Re: new lenses?
think it may depend on the hybrid lens you are fitted with. the one i was fitted with last year i was fitted with synergeise lenses and was told it could be between 1-4 weeks depending on whether the lenses i needed were in the uk or had to come from the US. sometimes it came within a week, other times it was the full 4 weeks.

Re: new lenses?
Ordering time can also depend if you are in the hospital system or private. Private is usually very quick but the hospital system varies quite a lot depending on how many beurocrats are required to sign off the order despite the fact that we pay our NHS portion up front.
A few yeasr ago at my hospital it used to just need the head of the contact lens clinic to approve, now it needs the head of optometry, accounting and another signature. My hospital optom finds this frustrating as it can take anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks just to get a lens ordered and then upto two weeks to get it made. That can make the difference for us of being able to work or stay at home practically blind.
