Steven

A member had this prescribed a few yers back when I know it was unavailable in the UK as it had yet to be registered. She managed to get it via one of the Larger branches of boots that can deal with special import medications through what I think is known as the International Pharmacist. Hers was a private prescription so I don't know if prescription charges apply.

You should be able to use the search function for RESTASIS to see where we dealt with it before. It may also contain information about the International Pharmacist, if not it will come up in any web search.

Hope this helps.

I have never used Re: RESTASIS® Ophthalmic Emulsion 0.05%. I'd be interested to know how you get on.

I use clinitas, and find it suits me very well.

Private prescription: @ you get charged the cost of the medicine, whatever that is.
OK, the price of the medicine, as levied by the manufactureres to the pharmacy.
If you use a cheap medicines, it can be significantly cheaper if you doctor is willing to write you a private prescription than to pay NHS prescription charges (for items not available over the counter, I mean).
Of course, if your medicine is fantastically expensive, then so will your bill be.

When I contacted Allergen (UK) recently, they told me:

".......RestasisTM is not available in the UK or Europe and Allergan are not able to supply the product on a named-patient basis. However, it is possible to obtain RestasisTM on a named patient basis via an international pharmacy. The contact details of two such pharmacies are given below.

IDIS World Medicines, IDIS House,Churchfield Road, Weybridge, KT13 8BD
Tel: 01932 824 000 Fax: 01932 824 200 E-mail: enquiry@idispharma.com
These people refused to tell me costs because I was a member of the public and not a doctor or pharmacist

John Bell & Croydon, Wigmore Street, London W1H 0AU
Tel: 0207-935-5555 Fax: 0207-935-9605 E-mail: jbc@johnbellcroyden.co.uk
These people quoted me around £300 for 32 vials - roughly one month's supply. Prescriptions would be needed by both.

When Boots sourced it for me, they were shocked to find it would cost around £980 for one months supply. I think this was based on the dose prescribed on the doctor's prescription ie 64 vials. This was with discount.
