Hi Folks,
I am feeling better about the decision I made earlier in the week. Yesterday I recieved a letter from my consultant ( which I normally do after each appointment) just confirming that we discovered an improvement in my corrected vision and that we both felt uncertain as to whether it was appropriate to carry out a transplant at this stage. He reassured me that the transplant is still an option for me in the future. Also he told me that they were able to use the cornea on another patient.
Just seeing it all in writing, confirming that it was a joint decision and hearing that they used the cornea makes me feel better about the decision. I expressed my feelings regarding the use of cornea to the nurses on the ward when I was being discharged - guess they relayed this back to my consultant.
I've obviously not burnt any bridges after all!!
I am due to collect my new spectacles 16th March, have a contact lens fitting on the 30th and then back to the consultant 1st April.
bye for now

There is no downside to that story at all, Alison.
Well done, and all the best.

Re: NO GRAFT LETTER FROM CONSULTANT
A sad fact is that there are more people on the waiting list than there is donated material regardless of condition so I think highly unlikly that anything would be wasted.
Alison, there is probably soneone out there not only grateful someone donated a cornea but that they could move up the line due to yours and the consultants joint decision.
As Andrew says no downside at all.
