DALK Graft

Postby jamesar » Tue 11 Nov 2008 2:51 pm

Hello again people, I hope you are all doing well. I have spoken further with my surgeon and he explained that he may be able to perform the deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty procedure, which carries a much lower risk of graft rejection, but may not have as good visual outcome than with a full PK. I was also told that laser surgery or excimer laser to further increase visual acuity would be an option after full healing of graft!! Sounds great :) I am so sick of this thin, jerk of a cornea! Just want it cut out. I am planning on keeping my old cornea in a lil container with formalin, for memories and a cool oddity for my computer desk.

Has anyone else had the DALK procedure, I am reading many articles that it is becoming a very popular procedure, if able to be done of course. :)

Oh, has anyone else had any type of laser/refractive surgery post op. I have heard many people say that graft and laser are totally contraindicated, but according to my surgeon, it may be an option.

Goodnight

Jamesar

Good morning! (or I guess it will be when you read this).

I had a DALK in one eye and a PK in the other. In the UK, so far as I know, the standard procedure is now the DALK, and they only perform a PK if the endothelium is deeply scarred so that a DALK would not offer any improvement in sight.

All the best with your DALK.

Not yet but my surgeon is also considering to do it.
