I had CCL on the 5th of Sept 9 days ago today. I will start another thread or maybe we should have a special section on CCL?

There is not much about on the www. I have Keratconus and am 42 which is old to have it and to have CCL I must be a late starter in life!

The procedure is 30 mins each eye with anasthetic drops put in both eyes. Then you go under an expensive looking high tech machine where you look at a green light and the doc fires lasers at each eye. Depending on the condition of each eye he may only do CCL and no laser re-shaping it depends on your eyes. He then scrapes  a layer off each cornea ow !! (but you dont feel it). His part takes only about 15 mins (both eyes are dead to pain as you have drops to deaden the pain) then you go into another room lay on a table wearing a silly shower cap and an operating apron that does up the back and a nurse or assistant does each eye for 30 mins with a UV light. After it all, the doc put two clear temp contact lenses in each eye (they call it a bandage!!??) to protect them and send you home with drugs and drops. You will need a pal, wife or husband to drive you home. I was given very little information on what it would be like after the operation. I had it done in CZ and it cost 1000 GBP.

That night you have bad pain :x the next day its better but you can't open your eyes, the third day you can open your eyes but everything is very foggy and blurred/smokey. This lasts approx 5 days and is very scary and you think this will last forever? You cannot watch TV, or read and all light hurts your eyes.

Its now day 9 for me and I'm in sunglasses inside and outside and it still hurts all light inc electric and PC glow. I want to know if this last long but Ill post another thread as I also need others experience of it. Can anyone reply to me on CCL?

To anwser your question and (IMO) others may think differently, if you are thinking of doing it make sure they give you full information and that your life can be turned upside down for maybe months, you may also be off work if your self employed you will have no money so have savings for at least 2 or 3 months. You may be trapped at home unable to go outside due to the light. I have made this text bold and big so I can read it and others. Sorry for any typos but I'm in sun glasses typing this message. 8)

So far CCL has been very bad for me but if anyone is interested I'll update this site or you can email me at albertshoemann@gmail.com (this is not my real name due to the nature of the www) I hope it will get better.

cclman day 9 of operation............. ow !!!!!

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your explanation; it provides welcome balance to a discourse that errs at times on the side of optimism.

Please keep us posted!

All the best.
