Air Travel + Recovery Time After DLK

Postby MrEdgeworth » Fri 08 Aug 2008 10:44 am

Hello all,

I am new to the Self Help/Support Group notion but here we go.

I am scheduled for a DLK operation in my right eye on the 18th of August. I am involved with a IT project in work and has had several delays  As such its "GO LIVE" has fallen right into my recovery time.

I may need to fly (approx 1hr travel time)15-18 days after my operation and was wondering if anyone could advise me if this was possible. After numerous Google searches i am still none the wiser.

Also if anyone can give me a approximate return to work that they experienced post operation, it would be a reassuring note for the project managers in work and my wife at home!

Thanks for you support,

James

James

Be guided by your ophthalmologist. I was off work for the minimum time after my DLK, but was off for longer after my PK. I am afraid that the answer to the question "how long will I be off" is a bit like the answer to the question "how long is a piece of rock?"

Welcome to the forum

Andrew

Hi.
Are you having this DALK under local or general?
Getting fully back into harness after the op may also depend on how long it takes you to get over the anaesthetic if you're having a general.
They warned me to take it easy for a fortnight to get over the anaesthetic.
YOu might be lucky - or having a local - but maybe bear it in mind, as well as seeing how wll the eye itself does.
In my case, I had a really bad reaction to the anaesthetic. I tried going back to do some temping in an office I work in semi-regularly 13 days post op and ended up in the local hospital (ie not eye hosp) A&E feeling faint and dizzy, unable to breathe and about to pass out. (They hadn't a clue what the matter was and treated me like a dangerous and particularly stupid druggie......) I'm still not fully back to work as after-effects still lingering, though am now starting to think it may e possible one day..... but I hope and trust I am singularly unfortunate in this.
Rosemary
