Hi from South Africa.

Postby Zelf » Thu 17 Jul 2008 7:19 am

Hello All...
I'm Zelf ( not my real name ) from South Africa. I've been living with my KC since 2001. I got those gas permiable lenses and they got lost.
About 6 months back i got a new pair.. Wel a pair is one for me cos my problem is in the left eye.
Thing is I can't seem to get used to the idea of this hard lens in my eye, but without it i'm 75% blind in that eye..

Guess i'm on the lookout for a easy way out..
Is there such a thing?

Ps Good to see that I'm not alone... Actualy bad .. I dont wish this on annybody..

Hi Zelf,

I just got back from South Africa where I was lecturing on keratoconus and lens options. Where do you live?

I'm in Bethlehem in the Freestate. I wish i knew about you. Would not have missed it!
At the moment i have to wear "gas permiable hard lenses" (pardon my spelling)
Without it I can't even read the letters on my keybord with my head 30cm away.
The lens improves my wiev quite a bit but not perfect.
I'm also starting to notice that my right eye is starting to "deteriarate", Yet it's stil good enough to drive with.

They said that i havent got dept perseption coz i only use one eye. Rubish..
I have learnt to compensate with one eye. i can guess distance just as good as anny other person i know.

Welcome to the forum Zelf! There is not really an 'easy way out', but there are many different lenses that may be suitable for you. Ask your optometrist who may be able to give you some more information about this.
