Sports with keratoconus

Hello everybody!

I'm new here - I just have a quick question which I hope somebody might be able to help with. I was diagnosed with keratoconus in one eye about 4/5 years ago (I'm now 24) - so far there is no sign of it in the other eye, so I've been able to achieve good overall vision with glasses. However my non-KC eye is quite short sighted, so I'm finding playing sports harder than I used to. I had an eye test this week, and the optician suggested a couple of options including prescribing me soft lenses for the non-KC eye only, or buying sports specs (looks like these might be hard to find with the prescription I'd need, though). Just wondering if anybody has experienced either of those situations and has any advice!

A soft lens on your non-KC eye might be a good solution to your problem: what sports do you have in mind.

I used to skydive wearing my rigid gas permeable corneal lenses, and at least one of the other members of the forum was a racing driver, again with lenses.

My son never wore his lenses while kayaking (sensible move).

The main sport I play is football, I guess quite a lot of people use soft lenses so it's probably not too bad; I suppose it was more the idea of just having a lens in one eye that I wasn't sure about!

The problem I had with soft lenses was not so much putting them in, or even having them in, but taking them out. Hard lenses are easy to handle; soft ones are a different experience altogether!
