Glasses v. Contacts

Hi, I have KC and when diagnosed 8 years ago was given very little information about it. I now am on my second pair (within a year) of GP lenses after numerous fittings and have good vision (apart from odd blurring from dry lenses) but my question is.... I wear glasses more out of ease and know I dont have great corrective vision with them but have recently had some problems - I find it hard to read books with small print, see well in distance, see the tv from more than 1.5 metres away or read subtitles and have alot of trouble reading writing on screen that is red/blue or any that are not black. Also when I swap from contacts to glasses its as if I have nothing helping my eyesight as everything is so blurred. Is this just symptoms of KC or a deterioration in eye sight?

My optician is less than helpful so any advice/help would be appreciated.

Hi Fiona and welcome to the forum!
Most of us get much better vision with lenses than with glasses. But part of what may be happening with you is that after you've worn your lenses for a while, they reshape the cornea a bit, so the prescription in your glasses isn't right for your vision at that point. I also swap between lenses and glasses during the day and to get round this problem, I ask for an appointment for glasses at the end of the day, when I've had my lenses in for 8 hours or so. So my eyes are tested in their 'post-lens' shape and the vision with glasses is then much better. So if that's your pattern for lens/glasses wear, try getting your eyes tested at the end of the day and hopefully the glasses (while not giving you as good vision as the lenses do) will be a bit better.

Welcome to the forum!

Could be a bit of the progress of your Keratoconus and a bit of deterioration of your sight. You say that your optician is not too helpful, but I wonder how you get on with your ophthalmologist (eye doctor). If your coindition is changing then you ought to let your ophthalmologist take a look.
