Hey all, I am in Sydney and have just had my inferior intac removed from my left eye. I am now on mini scleral lenses, for right and left eye. First up, i can't feel the left lens, however the vision gets really misty/cloudy after about 10 minutes of wear. The right lens is the real problem, it burns my inner eye lid and also becomes a little cloudy! Both of the lenses together do reduce the myopia and things are quite clear, however at short distance, like puter screen etc the acuity drops alot. GOD, I hate this damn disease, just want it to be fixed. It just sucks to live your life viewing the world as a distorted, cloudy blur, i feel i have been cursed. Anyway, does anybody else have any experiences with the scleral lens and the problems I have mentioned above. Oh, and i am getting the superior Intac out of my eye ASAP. Those Intacs have caused me so many problems for the past eight months, what a nightmare, and I am still paying off the god damn $3500. I now know to be ever so cautious in jumping into any new medical treatments, I also extend that caution to anybody considering intacs.
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum, and thank you for sharing your experience. I had a full sized scleral lens, and had none of the difficulties you seem to be having with its little brother!
All the best with your Intacs removal.

Re: Mini Scleral lenses - intac
SOrry to hear about your experience of intacs. HOpe the removal of the other bits goes OK.
I have worn sclerals for approx 32 years, mostly OK, though vision has declined gradually over the years.
I have tried mini-sclerals, though only in the clinic at an appointment - didn't feel they were going to be half so comfortable as the big ones (I can now tell more or less as soon as they are put in whether a new full-sized scleral lens is going to be a "go-er" or not - well, to be honest, I always could......)
As regards the mistiness - two thoughts:
1. have you cleaned them thoroughly before putting them in? - because if not, once the supply of wetting solution and saline you put on them to put them in get washed away with your tears, they could be developing dry patches where the tears don't "stick" to the plastic, and these could appear like misty patches.
If in doubt - try taking them out, and cleaning them again, and before putting them in again, shake off the excess fluids and look carefully for any patches where the solution is "pulling away" and leaving dry patches.
2. Are you getting air bubbles anderneath the lens? Have you been told to fill them with saline before putting the in? - that is, hold the lens "bowl" way up, fill to brim with saline, then lean right over the lens so your face is horizontal, and put the lens in with your face still horizontal and keeping as much saline still in as possible. Preferaly, do this over the washbasin or kitchen sink to spare the carpet!
If neither of these work, have you tried full-sized sclerals? - I know they are pretty scarey first time you see the size of them (!) but the so fit well over any intacs/scars from intacs insertion/removal, with a reservoir of tears filling all the space, so shouldn't aggravate any edges, etc.
Good luck.
