Floaters gotten worse

Postby timtim » Tue 09 Oct 2007 12:03 pm

Hi-I've been getting fitted for my first pair of RGP's over the last few months, and since I've had them, I've noticed that the floaters I have in both eyes have gotten more noticeable. Could there be any relation between getting new lenses, or would this be just by chance?

I've noticed that, mainly in bright places (especially outside), the floaters are so prominent that it feels like my eyes are focused on them rather than looking at things around me...seems like I am almost looking inside my eye. Also, if I move my eyes around, the floaters go all over the place, and it makes it hard for my eyes to settle into focus.

Any thoughts on this, or things I could do to help it?

Hi timtim

I can only speak from my own experience.

I went to A&E following the onset of floaters in my left eye and was told it was not unusual for somebody of my age (50+) which I understand is indeed the case. My brother suffers from floaters due to the ageing process and unfortunately he has to live with them.

However floaters can also be the symptom of other problems and 3 weeks later I had an emergency operation for a detached retina.

So my message to you is get your problem checked out as soon as possible just in case it is something more than ordinary floaters and if the all clear is given, think about getting a second opinion!

Hopefully you will get professional advice from an optometrist on this forum which may rubbish what I have just said!

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Please have a listen to my daughter, if you have a spare moment, on www.myspace.com/emmaparnes. She also wrote the songs.

Many of us with KC have floaters and get used to them.

As Michael says if you are noticing them more, get them looked at ASAP at Eye Casualty because they can be an indicator of other problems.

Sorry for ganging up on you, but I agree with Michael and gareth. if they say it's nothing to worrk aboyt, then don't worry. If your floaters are a sign of something serious, then you will have an opportunity to see this problem fixed.

All the best

Andrew
